Andrew Tennant finished seventh in the Stockton Grand Prix as Canyon Eisberg grabbed a spot in the Tour of Britain.
Matt Gibson, of JLT Condor, claimed victory in the tear-up on Teesside which was shortened in the wake of early crashes.
The Teesside contest, which was the third round of the Grand Prix Series, doubled as the decider in Sweetspot’s Tour of Britain qualification competition.
Tim Elverson’s squad headed into the 176km race in the fourth and final qualifying position – one point ahead of Team Wiggins but only two adrift of second-placed Madison Genesis.
And that meant it was all to play for with only JLT Condor assured of their place in the prestigious eight-day September stage race.
However, Tennant’s finish – ahead of the best-placed Team Wiggins riders – got the job done after a professional day in the saddle by the whole squad.
While the teams await official confirmation, it is believed JLT, ONE Pro, Madison and Canyon Eisberg will all ride the Tour of Britain.
Two early crashes resulted in Sunday’s battle being neutralised. The second of which brought a halt to proceedings for more than an hour.
The commissaires shortened the race accordingly and, once the action got under way again, the peloton were facing just three more large loops before the six on the finishing circuit.
George Pym, of Madison, took the opening intermediate sprint before Jack Pullar scooped the second for Canyon Eisberg.
But despite fleeting attacks, the race was all together when the peloton approaching the shorter, finishing loop.
Madison Taylor Gunman and Lincoln Grand Prix winner Alex Richardson were the first to go on the attack.
But as others attempted to bridge across to the move with four laps remaining, they merely hauled the groups back together again.
Despite further attempts by the British talents in the 100% ME squad, the peloton powered into the final lap as one with a bunch sprint looking likely.
And so it proved with Gibson, who was crowned national crit champion on Friday night, clinching victory from Matt Walls (100% ME).
Emils Liepins was third for ONE Pro, ensuring they will race the Tour of Britain. Tobyn Horton’s sixth place achieved the same outcome for Madison.
Team Wiggins are therefore expected to miss out on the race, with only room for four of the UK’s seven UCI Continental teams.
Pullar finished 15th on the day, Charles Page 24th, Harry Tanfield 34th and Rory Townsend 40th.
