Charlie Tanfield has been selected by Great Britain for the UCI World Track Championships in Apeldoorn, Holland.
The Canyon Eisberg talent, who rides on the boards for Team KGF, is expected to race the individual and team pursuit in the event which runs from February 28 to March 4.
The news comes on the back of a stunning track campaign in which the Yorkshireman has confirmed himself as one of the nation’s finest pursuiters of all time.
Tanfield, 21, cruised to the British individual pursuit title in Manchester last month, shortly after bagging two gold medals at the Track World Cup in Minsk.
On his way to glory in the individual pursuit in Belarus, the Great Ayton rider recorded the fourth fastest time ever for the 4km event (4min 12.253sec).
Back in October, he rode a 4.14.994 to become the second quickest Brit behind Boardman, who adopted the now-outlawed Superman position for his best of 4.11.114.
Australian Jack Bobridge holds the world record of 4.10.534, a time which is well within reach for the rapidly-improving talent.
Tanfield also helped Team KGF to the British team pursuit title in 2017 before suffering a mechanical in the defence of their crown last month.
The team were well in front of 100% ME on the timesheets when a magnetic speed sensor got lodged between his wheel and the frame, forcing him to sit up.
Tanfield rode for Canyon Eisberg as a stagiaire at the tail end of the last road season before clinching a deal to join his brother, Harry, in the ranks this term.
Fellow KGF rider Dan Bigham has also been selected for the Great Britain squad for the World Championships, which will mark the return to international competition of Jason and Laura Kenny.
The pair lit up the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 before marrying later that year and becoming parents to son, Albert, last August. Jason Kenny announced his return with the British sprint title in Manchester last month.
