Harry Tanfield is celebrating a fantastic silver medal in the Commonwealth Games time trial.
The Canyon Eisberg star clocked a stunning time of 48min 43.30sec on the 37.8km out-and-back course on the Gold Coast.
Only Aussie World Tour ace Cameron Meyer could better the 23-year-old as the Mitchelton Scott man clinched gold on Currumbin beach in 48:13.04.
Kiwi Hamish Bond completed the podium places in a time of 48:45.45, while Charlie Tanfield followed up his track heroics with a superb eighth in 50:42.83.
The 21-year-old had set the early benchmark of on his Canyon Speedmax during the first of the two waves of riders.
His spot at the top of the standings did not last long, though, as pre-race favourite Callum Scotson recovered from a rear wheel change to clock 49:35.65.
But the Aussie’s lead was equally shortlived when New Zealand’s Bond returned 44.29sec quicker.
Bond’s mark, delivered at an average speed of 47.4kmh, threw down the gauntlett to the second half of the field.
As temperatures soared on the Gold Coast, so did the heat of the competition with the likes of Meyer hitting the road.
Harry Tanfield was also out in the second wave and he was the first to better the intermediate time check of his brother at 10.8km.
The Great Ayton talent then tore through the second mark (17.4km) 9.81sec quicker than provisional leader Bond and hit the 33.9km check up by 3.76sec.
However, Meyer was in flying form behind him. He went faster through each check to put himself in the driving seat for the title.
The Tanfields’ England team-mate Ian Bibby was also going well but after dropping his chain on the gruelling Tallebudgera Connection Road climb, his challenge tailed off.
