Chris Opie has insisted he will be on the grid for stage two of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain.
The Cornish sprinter was caught up in a crash during the opening kilometres of Sunday’s curtain-raising stage from Edinburgh to Kelso.
It is not the first time he has suffered ill-fortune on the first stage of Britain’s premier road race, which is now rated 2.HC by the UCI.
In 2013, while racing alongside current team-mate Rob Partridge for UK Youth, Opie crashed near the finish of the dash from Peebles to Drumlanrig Castle.
But similar to that season, when he went on to notch three top-10 finishes, the fast man is confident no lasting damage has been done. Opie said:
“I’ve got some tyre burn and some sore muscles but otherwise I’m good.
“It seems to be tradition. Every time Rob and I are team-mates, I crash on stage one in Scotland!”
Partridge produced an impressive ride in the breakaway on a gruelling opening stage on Sunday.
In what looks like one of the most powerful Tour of Britain‘s to date, Caleb Ewan sprinted to victory and will wear the leader’s jersey when the peloton rolls out of Kielder Water on Monday.
