James Lowsley-Williams sprinted to fourth place as Canyon Eisberg finished third overall in the opening round of the Tour Series in Redditch.
And with it the 26-year-old, from the Cotswolds, did enough to scoop the first Eisberg sprints jersey of the championship.
Meanwhile, for the second successive year Chris Opie clocked the fastest lap of the night as he finished with a 1min 56.136sec for the 1.4km circuit (43.4kmph).
Gabriel Cullaigh clinched the individual win for Team Wiggins, while defending champions JLT Condor were crowned team winners as the Tour Series got off to a thrilling start in the midlands.
After seven laps of relative quiet, Alex Paton was in a five-man group that threatened to steal a march on the peloton.
Paton, who turned 28 today, was joined by Scott, Matt Gibson, of JLT, and Madison Genesis’ Connor Swift before ONE Pro Cycling’s Hayden McCormick bridged over shortly afterwards.
Scott had clinched the opening intermediate sprint from Gibson and Paton when a number of chases were launched from the main bunch.
A group including Lowsley-Williams eventually got across but not before Scott had added the second prime to his tally.
The peloton had turned up the heat by this point, though, and the race was soon back together.
That prompted another flurry of attacks and this time Lowsley-Williams escaped with Madison’s George Pym, Dylan Kerfoot-Robson, of Team Wiggins, JLT’s Tom Moses, Adam Kenway, of Vitus, and McCormick.
With 45 minutes on the clock, the six riders had gained 25 seconds on the bunch and Lowsley-Williams powered on to claim the third intermediate sprint.
However, they were reeled in shortly before the hour mark and a new group of 14 men emerged.
Lowsley-Williams and Paton were joined by Andrew Tennant now as Canyon Eisberg, JLT and Madison each boasted three riders among the escapees.
And this move quickly gained strength, easing 40 seconds clear of the peloton before Tennant attempted to shake things up again.
A counter then saw six men, including Lowsley-Williams, distance their companions as five laps to go was signalled.
The Canyon Eisberg man was joined by Moses, Kenway, McCormick, Cullaigh and Tobyn Horton, of Madison.
Cullaigh clinched the individual victory from Horton and Moses but all eyes were on the chase groups and where the team honours would go.
Opie sprinted to ninth spot, while Tennant was 11th and Paton 23rd, earning Tim Elverson’s squad third place overall behind JLT and Madison.
Lowsley-Williams racked up 11 points in the sprints classification, putting him one point ahead of Scott.
