George Atkins is determined to get back on track in 2017 after signing for BIKE Channel Canyon.
The 25-year-old, from Kibworth Beauchamp, has joined the UCI Continental newcomers following a disappointing campaign for JLT Condor.
Results were hard to come by for the 2009 British junior road race champion, who now lives in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.
But Atkins, who also clinched the British Cycling Elite Circuit Series title in 2013, is hoping his exciting new surroundings will prompt a change in fortunes.
And he has quickly been impressed by the squad ex-Pedal Heaven sports director Tim Elverson has put together for 2017.
The former ONE Pro Cycling rider said:
“You’re always lining yourself up for a bit of stick on social media when you say you’re excited to be joining a new team, how good the team looks and how much you’re looking forward to racing with a great bunch of guys.
“But I think, as cliched as it is, it’s still very much true, especially in the case of BIKE Channel Canyon.
“I had a pretty disastrous season in 2016, so on a personal level I’m looking to get back on track and to show what I can really do.
“Hopefully I’ll add to the team and bring my own strengths to the table to contribute to the goals and aims we have – mainly, winning some big races!
“I’ve been impressed with Tim’s enthusiasm and the way in which he’s brought the team together.
“I know quite a few of the guys on a personal level and it’s going to be a pleasure to be lining up in the same colours as them this coming season.
“In a nutshell, I’m looking forward to what the future has in store for the team.”
